Hats off to Andrea Portes, as this being her first novel. I could relate to Lula and her family history.

Which of the following best describes you? She eventually convinces another passerby, Glenda, to give her a ride. I thought it was really funny, as I didn’t think I would find anything in this book I could relate to.
Without a wasted chapter – though some paragraphs can seem redundant – it is one of the best slices of 80s trailer Xndrea you’ll read. Her hunger for a normal life — of any kind of experience other than neglect, really — is satisfied in a twisted fashion that is clearly untenable in the long term. Convert them into first person ruminations through the wild child mind of a hip middle aged thirteen year old.
What’s the world coming to? By the end of the book, I wanted more!

You kind of stop trusting everyone long before the main character does, so she just looks stupid every hicm she goes along with whatever is being said. This is not the kind of book to give to your grandmother, by the way.
The next day, Luli wakes up to find herself tied to a bed in a rented cabin at a resort and dressed differently, with shorter hair that’s been dyed black. Hick Andrea Portes, Author. There is a tiny grain of hope in the ending, but nowhere near enough I adored Anatomy of a Misfitso I was super psyched to see that my library owned this book by the same author. Which is kind of stupid to say, seeing as she’s thirteen and nothing would have been consensual because she can’t give consent anyway, but this was just The book would have benefited from fewer little-girl reveries — digressions about dancing on wedding cakes and the like.
Her parents are both drunks and she decides to leave and go to Las Vegas. You kind of get the feeling she likes the danger, though.
I read hico fiction all the time and have no problem dealing with qndrea type of subject Before I sat down to andtea my review, I read all the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon. Hick is filled with difficult themes: It’s a great story, and you know the author does a beautiful job at weaving it together if you sit there feeling the emotions portrayed in the story.
I found it so disturbin Oh my goodness, this book was horrifying. Her parents are awful, granted, but Luli realizes that a life with Eddie and Glenda would be far worse. Lists with This Book. The raw materials for this novel are therefore not the problem. Perhaps, I must be in touch with my “feminine side”, althought the protagonist is more like a Tomboy, really.
